In fact, many people are injured every year as a result of MTA bus accidents or other incidents. These victims can include not only bus passengers, but also drivers and passengers of other vehicles and pedestrians.

What is the MTA?

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (commonly called Metro, MTA or LACMTA) is the California state-chartered regional public transportation agency for Los Angeles County. The LACMTA is the third largest public mass transit system in the United States, based on ridership. The system has an operating area of over 1,400 square miles and an additional 79 miles of urban rail service. On any given business day, over 2,000 MTA buses are on the road during peak hours.

Past MTA Bus Accidents

In 2008, an MTA bus jumped a curb, crashed through a wall and plummeted into a Jack-In-The-Box dining room in an area outside of Pasadena. Fortunately, no one was killed, through the driver sought emergency medical attention for minor injuries.

More recently, in October 2010, four people were significantly injures in an accident involving an MTA bus and a car in Atwater Village. The bus driver and three other passengers were hospitalized as a result of this bus accident.
